Why
in the world would a 52 year old man sell a successful business to
start a new one? "Because God told him to", states Bud Blevins.
Carl (Bud) Blevins was a successful businessman in the field of
heating and air conditioning, but God had impressed on Bud that
southern Ohio needed a place where people could obtain Christian
material to strengthen their spiritual walk and reach out to their
family, friends and neighbors for the cause of Christ.
While many people and groups - including the Christian Booksellers
Association - said that southern Ohio could not financially support
another bookstore, Bud opened one anyway. His reasoning? "Because
God told him to" stated Bud.
Bud and Peggy Blevins started serving southern Ohio through Praises
Family Books & Gifts in October of 1991. In March of 2002, Praises
opened a second store in Portsmouth, Ohio.
Currently, the Chillicothe store is managed by Chuck Reisinger
and the Portsmouth store is owned and managed by Jeff and Shumaine
Dunn. |
