Pastor Gene Wilkes has written devotionals,
newsletters, articles, video lessons, songs,
and books to equip others to know, share, and
multiply Christ. His books Design for
Discipleship and Jesus On Leadership: Becoming a Servant Leader were written to lead the people of God after the model and teachings of Jesus. Gene has devoted considerable time to teaching and leading discipleship conferences across the country.
Gene received his B.A. in Greek/Religion
from Baylor University in 1975, and his M.Div. and Ph.D. in New Testament from the Southwestern
Baptist Theological Seminary in 1979 and 1985,
respectively. Gene has served the ministry for
more than twenty-five years in capacities
including youth minister, pastoral intern,
minister of youth education for the First
Baptist Church of Richardson, Texas, and
executive director of Christ in Camping
Foundation. Since 1987 he has served the Lord
as the pastor of the Legacy Drive Baptist Church
of Plano, Texas.
Gene's calling at Legacy Drive has witnessed attendance, total giving, and membership quadruple. Building plans have tripled the available worship space, and community service projects like the English as a Second Language ministry and the Crisis Pregnancy Clinic flourish along with Small Group Ministry, AWANA, the New Member Workshop and Member to Ministry programs.
Gene and his wife, Kim, have two teenaged daughters and live in Plano, Texas.
